Year 6 Residential Day Three: Sailing!

Another beautiful day dawned on the south coast and we emerged, tired but ready, for another fantastic day. We were treated to another hearty breakfast – pain au chocolat today!

Once again, the rooms were inspected for tidiness and happy teddies. Pleasingly, Year 6 are getting even tidier, well done! The teddies were also well prepared for their day!

Today, we spent the day sailing! We set out on four sailing boats: two small wayfarers and two larger boats that flew a pirate’s flag. One small problem though… a complete lack of wind! Fortunately, that didn’t stop Mr Pavey, Mrs Godwin and Mrs Maslin from having a good time. Their power boat zipped across the waves from boat to boat with ease!

We stopped for lunch near Poole, sitting in a lovely park and munching on some delicious sausage or cheese sandwiches. Rockley, you continue to spoil us!

We then set out to carry on exploring the beautiful inland harbour near Poole. All was going swimmingly, especially as the wind picked up! The smaller boats showed some real speed!

However, trouble was brewing on the teachers’ boat… the engine continued to cut out again and again until no more. In shame, the three members of staff were towed back to shore… much to the delight of Year 6!

Another delicious dinner followed though. Roast chicken followed by ice cream! Yum!

This evening, we returned to the beach once again to build sandcastles and try out crabbing. We also had a special visitor arrive for the evening; we were all delighted to see her!

Many of us successfully caught crabs and shrimps of different shapes and sizes and the castles were fantastic! They included a Santa’s Grotto and an entire city of castles built inside an enormous moat. Very impressive, Year 6!

Before long though, it was time to head back to base, don our pyjamas and share our favourite moments from our day. What brilliant sailors Year 6 have all been today, well done to all of you!
