Wow… We have had the most amazing day! This morning, children were up early and played games and visited the Standfast Hair Salon before breakfast; after that we split into three groups and headed out into the stunning Brecon Beacons for a day of caving and climbing. Our climbers learnt lots about rock formations and fossils as they tested their resolve whilst climbing up some pretty epic rock faces. Children worked in teams to navigate their way up and down the disused quarry, supporting each other with belaying, climbing and abseiling. Our cavers found out about the formation of the River Mellte (Welsh: Lightening River) which runs deep underground, creating an amazing cave-system. Children showed unbelievable courage and perseverance, scrambling, crawling and squeezing their way through jaw-dropping underground tunnels and caves. After that, it was back to Pencelli for dinner (and a room inspection!) before we headed off after dark for ‘Dingle Descent.’ We were warned not to take cameras on this activity due to it being pretty extreme – we essentially spent an hour or so scrambling down streams, gorges and waterfalls in darkness save for 4 head torches per team! Everyone had the most amazing time, arriving back for a cup of hot chocolate with huge smiles on their faces! What a day!
