This week, the whole school enjoyed a trip to the churchyard to learn about our local wildlife with the amazing Mr and Mrs Best!
The children were fascinated to learn about a wide variety of moths and were amazed to discover that there are around 1,500 different species of moth in the UK! They also investigated hedgehog footprints using a specially made tunnel and had the opportunity to dissect owl pellets. By examining the contents of the pellets, we were able to discover what the owls had recently eaten. We uncovered many bones and even skulls from small rodents, which the children found very exciting!
We also spent time birdwatching around the churchyard, hunting for and identifying different species. It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to explore and learn more about the wonderful wildlife in our local area.
Thank you so much to Mr and Mrs Best for sharing their time and knowledge with us!
