A couple of weeks ago, some children from Rowan and Oak Class took part in an athletics competition alongside 160 pupils from schools across the area at Marlborough College.
Each competitor completed four events: a 75m sprint, a 600m distance run, a standing long jump and a howler throw. Points were awarded for each performance, with all scores combined to produce an overall team total.
The competition was incredibly close and went right down to the wire. We are delighted to report that one of our teams finished in an excellent 2nd place, while our second team achieved a very respectable 7th place out of 16 teams.
All of our children competed with great determination, enthusiasm and sportsmanship, and they were a real credit to the school throughout the event.
A special mention must go to Raffa, who had a truly outstanding competition. Not only did he produce an incredible 54-metre throw in the howler event, which actually went beyond the tape measure and earned him the maximum score of 100 points, but he also achieved the highest score in every event he entered. As a result, he finished as the highest-scoring boy in the entire competition — a remarkable achievement.
Congratulations also go to Ollie, whose excellent performances across all four events saw him finish as the third highest-scoring boy overall, another fantastic result.
We are extremely proud of all the children who represented the school and would like to congratulate them on their efforts and achievements. We look forward to returning to the competition next year!
