A Diwali Feast in Elder!

This week in Elder Class, we have been celebrating Diwali!

We began the celebrations by working together to prepare our classroom. Everyone took part in creating a welcoming space. We cleaned tables, washed up plates, swept the floors and even cleaned the windows! It was wonderful to see the whole class come together with such enthusiasm.

Next, we prepared for our Diwali feast. We arranged tablecloths, made labels for the different foods, and carefully set out the snacks. Some children also created beautiful Rangoli patterns, placing them outside our classroom along with tea lights to welcome the goddess Lakshmi, the symbol of wealth and prosperity.

Once everything was ready, we gathered together to enjoy a variety of delicious traditional Indian snacks whilst listening to traditional Indian music. We tried savory treats like Methi Puri and Masala Munch, and for something sweet, we had Jalebi and Dry Petha. There were definitely some mixed reactions to the new flavours, but everyone was adventurous and gave them a try!

We really enjoyed the feeling of coming together as a community. It was a lovely way to learn about Diwali and celebrate the festival of light.
