Rockley Day Two – Windsurfing and Pico Sailing

It has been another amazing day here at Rockley! It all started with the traditional room inspection.  As is also traditional, some rooms were pristine and tidy, others not so much! We enjoyed syrupy pancakes, lots of cereal and even more toast before we set off to the beach to begin our day.

Once down on the lovely clear sands, our first task was a simple one. Using sand, pebbles, seaweed, ice cream sundaes (yes, really!) and more, the children set about building all sorts of sculptures. Volcanoes, turtles and even crocodiles took could be found on this little Dorset beach!

Looking fabulous in wetsuits and buoyancy aids, one group set out to learn how to windsurf while the others climbed aboard some pico boats and headed out to sea… very slowly, with little wind to propel them! The pico sailors had great fun instead, somersaulting into the water and capsizing their boats instead, while the windsurfers enjoyed a paddle a short way from the beach and back.

Another delicious lunch followed before we swapped over to try the other activity. Mercifully, the wind picked up and the windsurfers successfully gathered speed bobbing happily over the water. The pico sailors also picked up speed, although a little too much according to some children!

Back on dry land, we had some more time to play games with our roommates and a little group adventured to the nearby common with Mr Pavey and Miss James for a quick game of bulldog and chaos tag. Dinner this evening was a delicious bit of roast pork followed by apple crumble. It was then time for the Rockley quiz. We took part in general knowledge and music rounds and while one group finished last on points, they finished highly for their dancing skills. A wonderful end to another great day!
