Oak @ Pencelli – Day 4: Caving, Climbing, Canoeing and Campfire!

We woke up today to blue sky and sunshine and we certainly made the most of the lovely weather! One group headed off caving, taking in the spectacular scenery of the Brecon Beacons on a beautiful hike up to Eglwys Faen. Inside, everyone was simply amazing as they climbed, scrambled and crawled through an array of pretty hair-raising tunnels and passages with great communication, perseverance and team work. The huge main chamber (Stone Church) was pretty spectacular! Another group headed off climbing, tackling a natural bouldering course before challenging themselves on the sheer rock faces of an old quarry whilst our final group enjoyed learning about the history of canals whilst taking in the wonderful scenery and tranquil waters as they canoed from Brecon back to Pencelli – a particular highlight was crossing the beautiful aqueduct above the river Usk. This evening, children have packed their bags, had a room inspection (and given each other makeovers!) before enjoying a really special moment reflecting on our week and singing songs around a traditional ‘Mrs Maslin’ campfire. I can’t think of a better way to finish a day!
