Oak Class: Science!

In science this term we have been investigating the circulatory system. We began by exploring why it is important to look after our bodies before finding our more about the circulatory system. We created a human circulatory system in the hall, finding out how oxygenated and deoxygenated blood is pumped around the body. Then we made blood to help us understand what blood is: Yellow food colouring was the plasma, we used red cheerios for the red blood cells, mini-marshmallows for white blood cells and rice crispies were our platelets. After this we then focused on the heart and to help us find out more about the make up and function of the heart, we dissected (lambs) hearts in class – if you look carefully at the images you’ll see children were able to find key parts of the heart such as the valves, aorta and pulmonary vein as well as the atrium and ventricles.
