We have had yet another amazing day here in the Brecon Beacons! 2 groups headed off to Porth Yr Ogof for some super-challenging caving and another group hit the heights of Morlais Quarry for a day of climbing!
Porth Yr Ogof is an active cave system where the River Mellte thunders underground, carving spectacular tunnels and caverns… Once in the caves, children showed immense courage and determination to navigate their way around. The unbelievably narrow letterbox was again a firm favourite, testing children’s resolve and strength. ‘The toilet’ was a big challenge as we lowered ourselves through a super-tight hole and into chest-high water where we waded around a narrow channel before climbing out on the other side. Our final mission was battling upstream as we pulled ourselves up the subterranean river and back out into the rainforest-like outside before enjoying a well-deserved hot chocolate. Over at the quarry children really did battle against the elements to begin with – on arrival the rain was pouring which made climbing even tricker but children showed great resilience and had loads of fun bouldering before lunch then the sun came out as children worked in teams; 2 children belaying and encouraging whilst the other navigated their way up the rock face before abseiling back down.
We finished the day with some ‘egg-cellent’ problem solving tasks before a lovely moment of reflection, discussing the obstacles we’d overcome and celebrating the things we were most proud of during our stay at Pencelli.
