What an awesome adventure Year 6 had in London this week! After jumping on the train at Hungerford, we disembarked at Paddington before catching a tube ride to Westminster. Here we enjoyed the sights and sounds of central London: walking over Westminster Bridge, stopping for a quick photo by the Houses of Parliament and visiting the Emeline Pankhurst statue to remind ourselves of the importance of the suffragettes. After that, we had an amazing experience at Westminster Abbey – we enjoyed learning about its history before been given wonderful tour of the building. We learnt lots about Christian symbolism, found out about many important people who have been buried or have memorials in the abbey and we got to see the coronation throne (complete with some pretty old graffiti!). After that we met with a member of the clergy of Westminster Abbey and had the chance to reflect on our time in Primary School and our next steps as we move on to Year 7. Next up, we walked over to St. James’ park for lunch before heading up The Mall to Buckingham Palace. After trying to spot the King and interacting with some friendly security guards we were of to the Apollo Theatre to watch Wicked! Then we headed home via a tube and train ride! We certainly managed to fit lots into our London adventure and it was just brilliant to share this amazing experience with each other, making memories that will hopefully last a very long time!
