Our third and final day at Braeside has been another huge adventure. A later breakfast meant we could have a little bit of a lie in but some children definitely needed some rousing. Another challenge lay in store for the start of day as the children stripped their beds although this was seen as a good time to play a little game of hide and seek by some! The Mrs Newham Hair Salon also opened early on the girls’ floor.
Over the last few days, we have enjoyed playing games in the lounge and we had one last bit of time there playing table football, connect four and giving some piano recitals. We then had our final Braeside breakfast, where we wolfed down lots of croissants, toast and cereal. The dreaded room inspectors made their way round each room and once again, encountered a few too many smelly socks and sweet wrappers! However, for the first time ever, the room inspectors awarded one room a 10/10 score. Well done to the boys in Maple room!
We once again split into two groups to climb or canoe. One group had lots of fun on the canal, learning how to steer and propel themselves on the water (it’s still tricky… left is right, right is left, forwards is backwards?!). A few boats spent a lot of time disentangling themselves from the bushes but we all enjoyed lots of games, retrieving tennis balls or chasing each other playing tag.
Meanwhile, the climbers had a great morning on the climbing wall and traversing the still fearsome leap of faith. Every climber can be so proud of themselves for pushing themselves that extra step higher: whether they just climbed a little way up or all the way, they all exceeded their own expectations. Dan, one of our awesome instructors also wow-ed us, climbing up the pole and jumping from the platform in less than 15 seconds.
Another delicious lunch followed before it was time to say our goodbyes. We have had the most awesome three days at Braeside and a huge thank you goes out to every member of staff there who made it possible – from the amazing instructors to the fantastic kitchen and housekeeping staff who fed us and gave us somewhere cosy to sleep, you have all been amazing! Now for some sleep…
