We have had a great week in Elder Class!
We started the week with an exciting visit to Amazon in Swindon. From the moment we arrived and met our tour guides, we were full of excitement. We couldn’t believe how big the warehouse was and we were fascinated by the conveyor belts moving all around and above our heads!
It was amazing to see the robots in action and learn how everything works — from the delivery of items into the warehouse, to sorting and storing them, selecting items for customers, packing them carefully and labelling them ready for delivery. We even had the chance to have a go at packaging a few items ourselves, which was great fun!
The visit gave us a brilliant insight into how a large company operates and how technology plays such an important role in modern workplaces. We all came away feeling inspired and full of questions about how it all works behind the scenes.
Later this week in computing, we had a go at making patterns using code in the computer programme Scratch. It reminded us of ‘Spirograph’ and we had great fun creating different shapes and patterns using a variety of colours. We experimented with changing the code to see how it affected our designs and were really proud of the creative results we produced. It was exciting to see how coding can be used to make art as well as help us develop our computing skills!
What a great week we have had exploring computing, robots, coding and algorithms!
