Our recent science theme has been the heart and circulatory system. We’ve learnt lots about factors that affect our heath; the function of the circulatory system as well as the role of blood in our bodies. We also found out about the importance of the heart and investigated how the heart pumps blood around the body. To get a closer look at the make up our the heart, we followed instructions to dissect a (pig) heart. After some initial excitement/apprehension(!) we worked meticulously to locate the aorta and vena cava, we were able to find the valves that move blood through the chambers of the heart, the tendons that help contract these valves and we even found examples of where platelets had clotted.
