We started our week by exploring what sound is and what sound vibrations look like in real life. We began our investigation by using a tuning fork. After tapping it gently on the table, we listened carefully to the sound it produced. Next, we placed the vibrating tuning fork into a bowl of water and watched in amazement as it made the water splash and ripple! We then continued our exploration by sprinkling rice onto a drum and watched as the rice jumped across the surface. This visual demonstration helped us understand that although sound waves are invisible, the effects of the vibrations are not.
In English, we have been studying the short animation ‘The Lighthouse’. The story follows an elderly man who lives alone in a lighthouse and unexpectedly finds himself in a bit of danger when things don’t go quite to plan. This week, we were incredibly lucky to welcome the lighthouse keeper himself, Old Tom, into Elder Class. He answered all of our questions, shared fascinating stories about his life in a lighthouse and helped bring the animation to life!
Finally, we ended the week with a wonderful buddy reading session with Birch Class! It was so lovely to share all sorts of amazing stories together and embracing the world of books. What a wonderful way to end a busy week!
