St Michael’s Weekly Post – 6th October 2023

St Michael’s Weekly Post

6th October 2023

Thank you so much for all of your donations for our Harvest Festival service, which was held today in St Michael’s Church. It is fantastic to be able to support the Swindon Food Collective charity with the important work they do locally. Today also saw the official opening of our new Outside Learning Centre, our eldest and youngest pupils cut the ribbon to mark the occasion and it was wonderful to see many parents in school to celebrate. The event was featured in the Marlborough News so do check out the link.

House Day – Friday 13th October

A reminder that our first House Day for this year will take place next week, on Friday 13th October. This House Day we will be welcoming new children into their houses.  Children are invited to come to school in non-uniform, wearing their house colours, this can be a simple a hairband or socks or head to toe in their house colours. Please do not go out and buy something especially for this.  If your child does not know which house they are in, please ask the class teacher.

Ideally the candidate will have experience with children and have good communication skills. They will enjoy working with children and have the ability to use your initiative. A sense of fun and an understanding of the importance of play are a must! In return, we can offer the opportunity to be a member of the very happy St Michael’s staff team who are friendly and supportive. The hours will be Monday-Thursday 3-5pm.

Visits to the school are welcome and encouraged by appointment. For further details please find the advert attached or contact Louise Jamieson.

School Council Elections – w/c 16th October – Years 3-6

Our school council elections will be taking place w/c 16th October. All Years 3-6 are invited to present themselves for consideration for the school’s council. The children recently received an assembly on the topic of reducing energy usage and therefore this should be the main theme for the children to use in their application, however if there are additional topics that your children feel passionately about they should absolutely include them if they wish. The children can present in whatever format they would like to, whether it be a PowerPoint, video, poster, speech, rap – creativity is encouraged!

Online Safety Training for Parents – 7th November

South West Grid for Learning will be running an online training for all parents with regards to online safety for your children. All are welcome to attend, it will take place online on Tuesday 7th November at 5.30pm – we understand this is a tricky time for family life so please note there will be a recording that can be accessed for up to a month after. More information to follow.

Celebration Assembly

Our Celebration Assemblies will be restarting after half term, from Friday 3rd November.  We would like to invite parents to join these weekly assemblies and welcome you back into school to celebrate the children’s successes. There will be teas and coffees available after the assembly on Friday 3rd November, so please do stay after. In an effort to encourage more parents to join these assemblies, they will now take place on Fridays at 8:50am.  You do not need to inform us that you are coming each week, just turn up as and when you are available to join us.
