St. Michael’s Weekly Post – 21st May 2021

21st May 2021

Message from the Ridgeway House Captains, Roxanne, Alice and Maddie

Reminder – Ridgeway House Day (wear a splash of red) – Friday 28th May

We would like to remind you about Ridgeway’s upcoming house day on Friday 28th May (last day of term) which is raising money for The Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Come in wearing a splash of red. We would be hugely grateful if you could donate £2 on ParentPay. A reminder that we are running some competitions before the day. We would like all entries in by the end of Wednesday 26th so prizes can be handed out on the day.

The activities are:

Dress your teddy as a doctor/nurse/patient (linking with our theme of the air ambulance) or create your own helicopter out of junk modelling, using technology or anything else you can find. Best helicopter wins and best teddy wins a certificate and a prize. Please email photos to your class email addresses.

500 Book Amnesty

Following the period of home learning, we appear to have a number of 500 books unreturned to school.  500 books have a blue St Michael’s sticker on the front cover. We are holding a 500 book amnesty next week. A collection box will be placed at the back gate (St Michael’s Close) where we would love to have the books returned with no questions or judgment made. If you could have a look to see if you have any 500 books at home and return them next week, would appreciate it. If you happen to have any reading books at home these can also be placed in the box too.

Bikeability – Oak Class

For those children in Oak Class booked on to next week’s Bikeability, please make sure they have their bicycle, cycle helmet and suitable clothing for the weather conditions. Please ensure the bike check form & consent form reach the school office before 9am on Monday by paper copy or email as without this the children will not be allowed to participate.

Rowan and Oak Classes walk – Tuesday 25th May.

On Tuesday Rowan and Oak Classes will each be out on their walk during the school day. They will need to come to school in clothing appropriate for a day outdoors including a coat, appropriate walking footwear such as trainers or walking boots, and plenty of layers in which to keep warm. They will also need to bring a rucksack to school in which they can bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. If your child normally has a school dinner, Lataca will provide a packed lunch to take with them. We would ask that the children are ready for all eventualities with the weather and be prepared for it to be muddy and slippery underfoot.  Please also ensure they have a hat and sun cream should the weather forecast indicate it may be needed.

Could children please also bring an empty carrier bag/bin liner to sit on along with an empty yoghurt pot/cream pot/margarine pot, thank you.

Class photos were taken on Thursday. Once the photos are ready we will share a link with you to enable you to view the class photos and to place an online order.

Reminder – POETRY SLAM 2021 – Grand Final on Friday 28th May

The sound of poetry is filling the school corridors which means our Poetry Slam is just around the corner – next Friday! Children are invited to read/perform a poem independently or in small groups. Each class will hold their own ‘poetry slam heats’ (teachers will let you know when this is going to be) where children will perform their poems and then vote for their favourite performances. Those children/groups with the most votes will then be invited to perform in the poetry slam final on Friday. During the final we’ll have some fantastic judges who will select winners from each class and they will receive special certificates. Each class will also perform a whole-class poem which they have been working hard on in school.

For anyone who wants to enter, there is still plenty of time and homework this week is to enjoy practising some poetry ready for next week.

Weekly Homework

We are all super-excited for the return of the Poetry Slam next Friday and so homework this week is for children to find and/or rehearse poems ready for the poetry slam final!

Could we also ask that homework books are handed in to class teachers by Thursday next week. Thank you.
