Rowan and Oak Classes walk – Tuesday 25th May.
This term, Rowan and Oak Classes have been considering that there is no place like home and on Tuesday 25th May, Rowan and Oak classes will be walking through our local area – just outside Baydon. The afternoon will culminate in applying the skills they have learnt in art to complete a watercolour task.
Each class will be out on their walk between 11:00 and 2:30 so they will arrive and leave school at the normal times.
They will need to come to school in clothing appropriate for a day outdoors including a coat, appropriate walking footwear such as trainers or walking boots, and plenty of layers in which to keep warm. They will also need to bring a rucksack to school in which they can bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. If your child normally has a school dinner, Lataca will provide a packed lunch to take with them. We would ask that the children are ready for all eventualities with the weather and be prepared for it to be muddy and slippery underfoot. Please also ensure they have a hat and sun cream should the weather forecast indicate it may be needed.
We are really looking forward to spending some time taking our classrooms outdoors for the day! If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch with either Mrs Englefield, Mr Everitt or Mr Pavey, via the class email addresses.
Class Photos
Class photos will be taken on Thursday 20th May, in the morning. Can we please ask that children arrive promptly as photos will be taken first thing. Further information regarding how to order the photos will follow.
Rowan Class PE – 18th May
PE will take place on Tuesday 18th May rather than Monday 17th, as a one off. Rowan Class should therefore wear their PE kit on Tuesday, please.
Elder Class Swimming – 27th May
Following the postponed swimming lesson on the 22nd April, we have rearranged the session to Thursday 27th May. This will follow the same format as the earlier swimming lessons.
Driving in the village
For those of you who drive to and from school, can we please remind everyone to drive cautiously, particulalry around The Green and around the roadworks. For those with electric cars, please be mindful as children are unlilkey to hear your car easily.
Lataca lunches bookable for next term
Lunches for next term can now be booked via the Lataca IRIS (ParentMail) app.

Request for Newspaper
If you have any old newspaper that you were about to recycle, could we please ask that you recycle it with us. Old newspaper is really useful for us to have in school.
Recycling
Following last week’s Post, we are continuing to recycle batteries and crisp packets in school. Recycling boxes are in the entrance hall.
Reminder – POETRY SLAM 2021 – Grand Final on Friday 28th May
The poetry slam finals will take place in the final week of this term – week commencing 24th May, so we’d like children to begin thinking about their entry this year…
They can spend some time finding (or writing) a poem they really like or have an interest in – it could be fun or serious, it might rhyme or it might not, it could be a classic poem or a new one – the choice is theirs! As ever, they can perform individually or in small groups – it’s up to the children!
As usual, they will perform their chosen poem in class (teachers will tell you the date for this) and those with the most votes will go through to the poetry slam.
Each year group will also learn and perform a whole-class poem in the poetry slam final, which they may have even started working on already in class.
Good luck!
Reminder – Ridgeway House Day, wear a splash of red – Friday 28th May
St Michael’s, Ridgeway House Captains are holding a house day on Friday 28th May. We are looking forward to celebrating our school value of ‘Service’ by creating activities linked to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Please could you bring in £1 to wear a splash of red and £1 to take part in some fun activities planned for the day.
One of the activities will be done in advance, if your child wishes to participate. This activity is called ‘Dress Your Teddy’. You will need to dress your teddy as a nurse, doctor or patient, and email your picture to your class email e.g. oak@stmichaelsaldbourne.co.uk. Alternatively, you could create a helicopter out of cardboard/recyclable materials or you could even make something digitally. The best helicopter or teddy will win a prize.
Bag2School – Clothing Donations – Wednesday 19th May
Please have a rummage around your homes for spare clothes, bags, shoes, soft toys that can be donated and earn the school some money. This year unfortunately donation bags are unavailable but Bag2School have provided further detail on how and what can be donated on the attached sheet. Please bring your donations to school by 9am on 19th May 2021 and drop them off by the front gate. Unfortunately we are unable to store any bags before the collection date. The more we give, the more money is raised for the school.
