As the term draws to a close, Rowan Class enjoyed their final visit to the forest today. We began our session by listening to a lovely story read by Mr Jarvis about forest folk who write haikus to welcome spring. Inspired by the tale and the many signs of spring around us, we then created our own haikus, producing some truly wonderful poetry!
We then eagerly set to work lighting the fire and preparing the dough for our campfire bread. Some children mixed, stirred and kneaded their dough, while others prepared the sticks for cooking. A few were feeling adventurous and even added a touch of cinnamon for extra flavour!
Next, the children carefully baked their bread over the fire, the delicious smell filling the air, before adding their chosen toppings. Some enjoyed cream and jam, others tried marshmallow or chocolate chip fillings and a few experimented with very imaginative combinations! The bread went down a treat, and they were very proud of their creations.
What a wonderful few weeks we have had in the forest! We’ve learned new skills, explored nature, cooked delicious treats, enjoyed stories and poems, and spent quality time with our friends—whilst swinging in hammocks, whittling and building dens along the way!
