Oak Class: Geography Field Trip – River Pollution Data Collection!

As part of our geography unit Year 6 designed and carried out a field-trip to collect data about pollution in our local waterways. We set out along the River Lambourn in Newbury to look for signs of pollution. In only a relatively small area we found all sorts of things that can harm and pollute our rivers. From shopping trollies and bikes to aluminium cans and single-use vapes, we couldn’t believe how much litter we found. We then sorted the rubbish, categorising, tallying and making written and pictorial notes about what we had found. Next week we will collate the date and send our findings back to ARK (Action for the River Kennet) before considering what we can do next to best support our rivers. All of us in Year 6 would like to send a very big thank you to Anna and Emily from ARK who were so helpful and insightful during this thought-provoking field-trip.
