We had the most amazing day at Ufton Court learning all about the Vikings! We began the day meeting at the archers’ hall, close to a mead hall (similar to that in the story of Beowulf!). From there we headed to battle training before boarding a Viking longboat to learn about Viking travel and trade. After lunch the battle commenced! We learnt all about how Alfred the Great and the Vikings fought to control Wessex. We reenacted many different battles, some of which were won by the Vikings and others by the Saxons until finally, we found out how King Alfred managed to see off the Vikings and maintain control of Wessex! What a fantastic learning experience!
