What an amazing first day at Braeside we have had! We set off this morning full of excitement for what lay ahead. The sweets made a swift appearance too…
When we arrived, we had a quick snack before setting off on the town trail around Devizes. We answered questions and navigated around town, some groups a little bit quicker than others (much quicker than others!).
After lunch and a quick play (table tennis without the paddles, anyone?!), we split into our groups. One group headed to the canal to try our hand at canoeing. First of all, the tricky job of steering the canoe challenged a few boats (left is right, right is left…?!). Once this was mastered, lots of games on the canal ensued, catching as many balls thrown into the canal as possible.
Meanwhile, the other half of the class had a go at some climbing. First of all, we took on the climbing wall, having lots of go’s trying to reach the top. Following this, we took on the leap of faith. Having climbed up a pole to a platform, our task was to jump and high five or headbutt a ball suspended high above the ground. It was a lot of fun pulling off our greatest James Bond/Superman poses!
The rain poured down and it was time to head inside. At long last, it was time to find out who our roomies were! We took our bags upstairs before heading over to the dining hall for tea – on the menu tonight: pasta or jacket potatoes!
This evening, we headed to Braeside’s very own woodland and took part in the nightline (it was a little too dark for photos, sorry!). After the recent weather, it was no surprise to see a few muddy knees and lots of slipping and sliding as we traversed the course.
Our day ended with a delicious cup of hot chocolate and we took some time to reflect on what an amazing day we have had. Year 5 can certainly look back on an amazing first day full of amazing achievements. Roll on tomorrow!
