20th May 2022
The buzz in the school today has been amazing. The children have been full of energy and excitement in anticipation for today’s Poetry Slam.
The Poetry Slam this afternoon was so much fun. The children truly immersed themselves in poetry. Each class gave such wonderful well-rehearsed performances and the individuals and smaller group readings were fantastic, especially the poems that the children had written themselves. The children should rightly be very proud of themselves.
Winterbourne House Day – Thursday 26th May
Message from Winterbourne House Captains: On the 26th May, it is Winterbourne House Day when we would like you to come in wearing dark green, blue or something horse related. We would like to recommend a donation of £2.50 to be paid on Weduc or pop the cash in the bucket on arrival to school, to donate to Riding for the Disabled. We have a local riding club where disabled people get a chance to care ride a horse. The £2.50 recommended donation is broken down as follows: £1 for non-uniform, £1 to join the activities and 50p to join the competition. Please bring an old sock that you can decorate (we will have spares but not many).
Friday 27th May – Queens’ Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
We have a special day planned to celebrate the Queens’ Platinum Jubilee, beginning with a Church service, followed by a range of jubilee related activities. The children will be working together in their houses and the day will culminate in an afternoon tea party. Children can come to school in a combination of red, white and blue. We look forward to enjoying a special day.
Welcome
We would like to give a very big welcome Vanya who will be joining Acorn Class next week. Vanya and his mum have travelled from Ukraine and are staying in the village. We hope you enjoy being part of our lovely school as much as we do!
Sun Hats and Sun Cream
The weather at the start of this week has been beautifully sunny. As a reminder, children should have a named sun hat in school every day and that sun cream should be applied in the morning before school. Children can have a named bottle of sun cream in their bags (for personal use), so they can top up their sun cream, should they choose to.
People Who Help Us – Give a talk to Acorn Class
As a reminder, Acorn Class are learning about People Who Help Us and would love to meet some real doctors, nurses, vets, fire fighters, police officers and people from the armed forces. We also love to challenge gender stereotypes! Do let us know if you would like to meet the children and share some of your experiences of helping in the community.

DBS Requirements for Volunteers
At St Michael’s we are so lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers and we always would love more. Every volunteer who comes to school requires a DBS, whether you are a parent or not. We therefore ask if you do kindly volunteer and do not currently hold a DBS with the school please reach out to the school office so we undertake the relevant DBS checks. Unfortunately, they are not transferable from other organisations. Thank you in advance for your support.
