St. Michael’s Weekly Post – 17th June 2022

17th June 2022

This week Key Stage 2 children have been participating in lots of offsite sporting activities, including cricket, athletics and orienteering.  Our teams have been an absolute credit to us, really demonstrating amazing sportsmanship along with our St Michael’s values. We would like to say a massive thank you to the parents (and grandparent) volunteer drivers who ferried the children to the events, without you we quite simply would not have been able to attend these fantastic events!

Today the whole school have enjoyed the Ridgeway House Day.  Children have come to school in the bright colours of the flag of Ghana. Children have heard about where the money raised will be going.  The money will facilitate children at St Anna’s School and Orphanage, in Ghana, to go on a school trip.  We are so pleased to be able to offer them this opportunity which they may otherwise not be able to enjoy.

Next week we will be saying farewell to one of our wonderful TAs, Mrs Bartholomew. We will be so sad to see her go but we know she will do amazingly well on her next adventure.

Water bottles

Every child is to have a water bottle in school each day, particularly with this warmer weather.  Can we please remind parents these bottles are for water only, no squash, please.

London Trip – Oak and Rowan Class

Oak and Elder class are excited about their trip to London on Monday where they will have opportunity to take in all the main sites.  Can we please ask that children arrive in school at 7:45am and be picked up at the later time of 6:30pm.

Brass Lessons

A reminder, there will be no brass lessons on Monday 20th and 27th June, therefore brass lessons (including Cherry Class) will take place on Wednesday 22nd and 29th instead.

Fund Raising

We wanted to say a big “well done” to Evelyn and Audrey who held a Bake Sale on Saturday, fundraising for Save the Children and the Ukrainian appeal. They raised £111!

Request: Large Old Trousers

As a reminder, on Sports day, we usually finish our flat races in Key Stage 2 with an obstacle race which culminates with the children putting on adult trousers and running to the end of the course.  If you have any larger, old trousers that we could use on the day could you please send them in.

Sports Day

Our Sports Day takes place on Friday, 24th June.  All the family are welcome to watch and support the children and join us for lunch on the field.  You are welcome to come along at various different points of the day or stay for the whole event.  Can we please ask that if you are arriving for the 9am start or noon for the picnic lunch, you enter school through the back gate and go straight up to the field. If you are arriving any other time of day, please come to the playground gate, via the staff carpark, next to the main entrance.  As a reminder timings for the day are as follows:

Carbon Neutral Aldbourne presents Aldbourne Open Gardens – Sunday 26th June – 12noon – 4pm

Our lovely school rain garden will feature in next week’s Open Gardens. The aim of the event is to showcase gardens in the village where wildlife is thriving and we are really proud to have been included. There will also be a number of private gardens and the Aldbourne Community Garden open for viewing.

Entry is free. Maps, children’s quiz, garden info and refreshments will be available at the Memorial Hall.

Messages from the PTA

Aldbourne Fun Run & Summer Fair – Saturday 18th June

We know we don’t need to remind you about the Fun Run or the Summer Fair tomorrow, as you all know it will be happening, and we can’t wait to see as many of you as possible from 9.30am on the village green ready for the Fun Run to start at 10am!

What we would like to say is a tremendous thank you to every single one of you who has so far volunteered to bake medals / man a stall / provide a float / offer to put up gazebos / organise the food / buy ice creams / plan the tombola / donate to the tombola /  print off signs / write risk assessments / bake cupcakes / buy tickets / coerce your neighbours and parents into coming along to help / tidy up and put it all away again at the end and all of the million things that are needed to make an event like this happen. You are all wonderful people and our children are so lucky to have such a fantastic team of parents and supporters to do it!

Sports Day Refreshments

On sports day, the PTA will be selling refreshments so if you are able to buy or bake us some cakes we would really appreciate it. All cakes can be brought into school the day before or any time during sports day itself. Please label your cake tins so they can be returned to you and let us know what you have baked. All money raised will go towards the school. P.S. If you have a reusable tea/ coffee cup then please bring it along to help save on paper cups
