What a fantastic weekend! The fun run entries crept up exponentially towards the start time and people flocked to enter that morning but the wonderful volunteers from the Friends of St Michael’s School let people register up until the last minute and managed a wonderfully organised registration.
Our lovely teachers donated much of their Sunday to cheer on their pupils and parents alike as they marshalled the route, smiles on faces and we are all so grateful to them for this. Bystanders on the village green allowed themselves to be drawn in to the throng to organise medals, water, goody bags and bananas for the finishers. An amazing 320 people entered the race, with several completing a “virtual entry” to run it elsewhere (we had the USA, Wales, Essex and even Baydon!). A staggering 47% of our participants were under the age of 18 showing that anything is possible. Pushchairs were huffed and puffed up Baydon Hill and dogs pulled people down the other side – what a sight for the community to be involved with!
The Friends of St Michael’s School held a wonderful fair at the end – including the incredibly popular Slip and Slide to allow some cooling off and being covered in bubbles! The fair was huge fun, thanks must be made to all those who donated gifts for our raffle and all those parents and teachers who organised this as well as tombolas, bottle stalls, barbecues, face painting and book stalls. It was super to see such a great turn-out on the Green and the two events combined made over £4000. To see the majority of our school stand up in Celebration Assembly to show their involvement was wonderful: thank you to one and all!
