St Michael’s Weekly Post

7th February 2025

A lot has been jam packed in this week across all areas of the school! Hazel class have been learning about the Jewish celebration of Shabbat. They turned off all electronic distractions, created invitations and enjoyed quiet time together sharing traditional food of grapes and bread before playing games.

Rowan class enjoyed an amazing day as part of the Road to RIAT (Royal International Air Tattoo), a STEM project designed to encourage them to get thinking about flight. They learnt how rockets are designed, thought about aerodynamics and the forces involved in successful flight. They also designed a sustainable aircraft, thinking about fuels and materials which will be entered into a national competition!

Cherry class were treated to an informative talk from the Aldbourne Heritage group all about the Romans this week. Thank you so much to the Heritage group for sharing their knowledge and for bringing in lots of amazing artefacts to help bring their history lessons to life. Today they also experienced the first of two days from the Thinking Music project. Students from Bristol University travelled to St Michael’s to teach them about making and performing music and the class all had such fun.

A group of Elder children had a brilliant time at the fundamentals movement festival this week that took place at Pewsey Vale School. As ever, we were so impressed with the determination and sportsmanship shown by our school – well done everyone.

Rossco the snake!

We hope you have all noticed Rossco the rock snake outside the front gate of school! As part of Children’s Mental Health week, we would love children to decorate rocks, perhaps including a positive message and place them onto the snake to make him grow! We look forward to seeing the creations. The wonderful Kelly at smART has put this together for us and these are her top tips for painting your rocks:
✔️Use acrylic paint – more weather resistant

✔️Coat your rock with white paint first – colours will be more vibrant
✔️Add an inspirational quote or your name with Posca pens or a sharpie.

Hazel Class

Please note, Hazel class PE will take place on Tuesday (next week only).

Forest School will take place on Wednesday next week only.

100 Day Celebration – Thursday 13th February marks 100 days of the children being in Hazel class! They have been counting the days as part of our maths learning and would love to invite parents and carers to join us at 2:30pm to round off our celebrations!

Music Concert

There will be a music concert on Monday 10th February. This will be a chance for Cherry class to showcase their cornet skills and for other children who have individual music lessons in school to show you what they have been learning. The concert will take place at St Michael’s Church at 2pm.
