The Living Rainforest

Years 5 and 6 visited the Living  Rainforest on Monday, to experience firsthand what it would be like to be in a rainforest. Walking into the greenhouses, the first impression we all had was of the incredible humidity and the vivid green that we were surrounded by. Our wonderful guides taught us about the idea of “Sustainability” – using just enough of what we need, leaving the rest to flourish. In an age of deforestation and dwindling animal numbers, we learnt how we can preserve what is left so that humanity and wildlife can live successfully in harmony. We loved seeing the array of animals rescued or re-homed by the Living Rainforest (including a well-hidden sloth, Goeldi’s monkeys, tree pythons, tarantulas and iguanas) and it served to remind us all of our role in ensuring their survival in the wilds of the rainforests.
