Sunshine, Smores and a Stethoscope!

As the fantastic summer weather continues, Acorn class have had another fun-filled week learning and exploring.

We were blessed this week with another Forest School in the warm sunshine so playing under the trees kept us lovely and cool. So cool in fact, that we lit the camp fire and made Smores with marshmallows and bananas… YUM! Some of the children got together to create a handrail up the mudbank, working as a team to tie the ropes onto posts bashed into the ground. Very helpful for us slightly less agile adults!

The children have also continued with some brilliant water track play, creating some impressive structures across the outdoor area. Plus, we’ve had some incredible settings built – both inside and out – involving crates, blocks and tyres. At the art table, children continued making prints with string. Not A Box corner has been popular as always.

On Wednesday morning we were very lucky to have Beatrice’s mum Claire visit the class to talk to us about her ‘Amazing! job as a physiotherapist. Clare arrived with a HUGE bag which she unpacked to reveal a full-size treatment bed! Clare demonstrated how she uses arm slings, wobble boards and her stethoscope to help her patients recover from accidents and surgery. Miss Welch had a particularly productive demonstration on her bad hip! To round off the talk, the children learned how important hygiene is and helped to wipe down the treatment table, all ready for the next patient!
