Wow! What an incredible day Cherry class have had.
Miss James would not tell them a thing about the trip so the suspense and excitement was felt in the air before setting off! Once the children arrived at Oxenwood, they were given a brief History talk discussing all things rocks and what people wore during different periods of History.
Then, they set off into the woods. We had predictions of seeing bears and wolves but… amongst the tress, the children could see movement! Something was coming towards them. It was a Stone Age man who had somehow managed to travel back in time. The children all surrendered which made the man feel comfortable to get closer. The Stone Age man went to his shelter to make a fire. On the fire he cooked his fish and fixed his tools. The children were absolutely mesmerized and could have kept watching him all day long!
After this, the children were set their own challenge to create their own shelter. Each group made a completely different shelter. The teamwork and effort that went into the shelter making was incredible.
Once lunch was demolished, the children were set the task to fix the Stone Age house using only mud, straw and water. Then the final day task of the day commenced, which involved javelin throwing at the cow (Miss Wood took one for the team)!
A very enjoyable day!
