Elder Class Became Anglo Saxon Architects!

Our History lessons have been so much fun this term. We have gone way back to 55BC and learned out about Julius Caeser, the Romans, and their reasons for invading. Elder class then explored the building techniques used by the Anglo-Saxons, focusing on wattle and daub walls. Wattle and daub is an ancient construction method where a wooden framework (the wattle) is woven together, and then a mixture of clay, straw, and dung (the daub) is applied to fill in the gaps, creating sturdy walls. They did an amazing job taking these techniques and using them to create their own mini versions. The children have learned how this method was commonly used in Anglo-Saxon homes, and how it helped people stay warm and protected. We’ve also looked how this technique reflects the lifestyle and resources available to the Anglo-Saxons during that time.
