Debating in Rowan class

Our Geography this term has focused on rainforests and we finished our learning by exploring deforestation. We were shocked to learn some appalling facts such as 26 million hectares of forest has been cut down this year and 28% of animal species are critically endangered.

We used deforestation as a way to learn about debating. We divided ourselves into a for and against team and wrote compelling arguments both for and against deforestation. It is a really tricky skill to write arguments from a point-of-view you don’t agree with but the children came up with some well-thought arguments, even if they weren’t on the team they wanted to be on! Well done for some very thoughtful arguments and lots of great speeches in our debate, Year 5!
