Braeside Day One: Climbing and Canoeing

It has been an amazing first day at Braeside for Rowan class! After a coach journey full of singalongs, we arrived at Braeside and headed out on the town trail. We explored the lovely town of Devizes answering lots of questions about it’s history (including what the Tudors would do with the contents of their toilets…!) before returning for our lunch.

In the afternoon, we split up into two groups – one headed to the canal for a spot of canoeing, while the other stayed onsite to climb and try out the leap of faith. The leap of faith consists of a giant pole with a platform on top, from which the children had to jump and try and jump or head a ball suspended high in the air. They also tried out the climbing wall, which had a few different levels of challenge. Meanwhile, the canoers (for whom many it was the first time in a canoe!) enjoyed some time playing games on the Kennet & Avon Canal. Having successfully dodged a few narrowboats and a large family of swans, they played a few games such as tag and a form of football (all while staying relatively dry!)

After a delicious dinner (pasta!), we headed out for the nightline. Having tried the course, we were then given blindfolds and the task of guiding a partner round without their eyesight. Year 5 brilliantly helped one another over tree roots (and under fallen trees!), and up and down slippery banks. To finish our first amazing day, we gathered for a little hot chocolate and celebrated everybody’s achievements.
