Wow, Year 5! What an incredible day you have had. After a sleepy start, we headed for a delicious breakfast (croissants, cereal and toast!), before the arrival of the dreaded room inspectors. Following a mixed bag of inspections(!), we learned how to use two vital tools – a map and a compass.

We headed out on our day’s walk to Roundway Hill, a short way outside Devizes. First, we used our newly acquired compass and map reading skills to navigate our way out of Devizes into some beautiful woodland. From there, we climbed the steep incline of Roundway Hill before a well-deserved lunch. We stopped at the “beach” (a tree) before arriving at Oliver’s Castle. Here, we learned about the Civil War battle that took place here hundreds of years ago, followed by a brief reenactment! A real highlight was sliding down the incredibly sleep slope to the bottom. We found a spring, where we used the local clay for a quick facemask before returning to Braeside – what a phenomenal walk that was, full of perseverance and determination from so many!

After another delicious dinner (fish and chips), we headed out into the grounds for a campfire. We serenaded the whole of Devizes with some beautiful campfire songs, jokes and stories before gathering for a final hot chocolate and bed. There are definitely some sleepy children tonight!
