What a busy week in Year 1!
This week, we have started to explore where we are in the world. We used Google Earth to zoom from the wider world right down to our country, local village and school. We enjoyed spotting and talking about the different geographical features we could see along the way and beginning to understand where our school fits into the wider world.
Our learning continued into our continuous provision, where the children had the opportunity to become map-makers! They enjoyed designing and building their own maps using a range of construction materials, thinking carefully about places, routes and landmarks they could include.
In PE, we have been developing our sending and receiving skills. The children worked with partners to practise throwing, rolling and catching, focusing on controlling the ball and working cooperatively with one another.
In Science, we have begun our new unit on Animals. We have started learning about the different groups that animals belong to and thinking about the features we can use to help us sort and classify them.
It has been a fantastic start to our new learning, and we are already seeing lots of curiosity, discussion and creativity in Year 1!
