St. Michael’s Weekly Post – For Week Beginning 16th September 2019

12th September 2019

Calendar dates:  The calendar dates for 2019/20 can be found attached. The T D Days for this year are:

4th November
6th January
24th February
22nd June

23rd October – This is an emergency or extra school closure day which is necessary due to the essential roofing works which need to take place over October half term. This is to ensure both the school is safe whilst the builders are working, and to guarantee that the work can be completed over the holiday period.

School Hours:  School opens at 8.45am and registers are taken at 8.55am.  If you arrive after this time, please sign in the book in the entrance of the school and go to the office.

School Council:   We are inviting pupils from Year 2 to 6 to stand for this year’s School Council. We can’t promise to change the world but there is a lot that can be done for the school. If your child hasn’t been on the Council for one year and would like to apply, presentations will need to be in school by Monday 30th September and voting will take place that week.

Years 3 and 4:  On Friday 27th September, Years 3 and 4 will be going on a geography and science trip to Dunraven Bay in the Vale of Glamorgan. To get enough quality time there, we intend to leave school at 7.45am, therefore we ask that children arrive at school at 7.30am. We aim to leave Dunraven Bay at 3.30pm and arrive back at school for 5.30pm.  We will spend the day outdoors therefore we ask that children come to school in suitable outdoor clothing. We would like some volunteers to help with this trip.  If you can help, please talk to Mrs Ford or Mr Everitt.

There is a cost associated with the trip of £19.50 payable on ParentPay which covers the lessons at the beach as well as coach transport. We do appreciate that this is more than we usually ask for a school trip and if you have any concerns please do come and talk to Mrs Hamilton or Mrs Lipscombe in the office.

Year 6:  Bikeability letter will be brought home in book bags today.  Please return forms to the blue box outside the school office no later than tomorrow (Friday 13th September).

KS1:  KS1 are loving their new mud pit and kitchen area and would like some interesting bits and pieces to add to their concoctions and potions.  Mrs Godfrey would welcome any donations of old dried flower petals, fresh herbs, lavender etc. on an ongoing basis.

Aldi Get Set to Eat Fresh:  We are currently involved in Aldi’s Get Set to Eat Fresh Scheme which is running until the 18th November 2019.  For every £30 spent in Aldi you’ll receive a special Team GB athlete sticker.  If the school can collect 300 stickers we will receive an exclusive school sports kit and could win one of twenty £20,000 prizes.  Please place any stickers in the blue post box outside the school office. For more information visit https://getseteatfresh.co.uk/kitforschools or see the school notice board for more details.

Appropriate clothing:  With such changeable weather at the moment, please can you ensure your child has a jumper and waterproof coat in school daily.

Lost Property:  Lost property will be on the playground every Friday.  Please take your time to look through it for any missing items.

Forest School:  For Forest School each child needs named clothes as follows:

  • Long trousers – both in summer and winter
  • Long sleeved top – both in summer and winter
  • Layers of clothing appropriate to the temperature and the season – in winter the children will need at least three layers to keep warm.
  • Waterproof top and trousers or a waterproof all in one suit. (We find that a good mix is waterproof dungarees and a waterproof jacket.)
  • Winter: Warm socks, hat and gloves.
  • Summer: Hat, long trousers and long sleeved tops are needed because it is cooler under the trees and they help to protect from scratches.

These should be old clothes or clothes that parents do not mind getting dirty. They will get wet, dirty and muddy.

Moving on DVD:  Again this year, DVD’s of the performance will be available at a cost of £5.00. To order your copy please complete the form overleaf and return to the blue post box outside the school office.

Whole School Photo 2019 – A4 copies of the 2019 whole school photograph are available to order from the school office for £3.50 each. Please complete the slip overleaf to order a copy.
