St. Michael’s Weekly Post – 4th September 2020

4th September 2020

Welcome Back!

It is lovely to see everyone back at school – all the children have settled in really well.

Thank you all for your support with the arrival and departure routines and the changes we have made. We recognise that there have been a number of teething troubles this week but we appreciate your patience and thank you for bearing with us.

Car Parking – Back Lane & St Michael’s Close

At the beginning and end of the school day parents are asked not to bring cars up to school and to please be mindful of our neighbours. Please do not park cars near a junction, particularly on the bend and entrance to St Michael’s Close, blocking visibility of West Street. Please also be mindful that emergency vehicles need access up St Michael’s Close and Back Lane in an emergency.

We would like to encourage as many people as possible to walk to and from school. Please follow the highway code and remain vigilant at all times to ensure everyone’s safety.

Thank you for your ongoing co-operation as we understand that parking in the village can be difficult.

PE and Forest School – Change of days

We have had to change a couple of class PE days, we apologise for this. The updated PE days are below.

Class Name PE Day Forest School
Acorn (Reception) Miss Mearns will confirm when PE will start Term 1 – Wednesday
Hazel (Year 1) Wednesday Term 1 – Monday
Birch (Year 2) Tuesday (changed from Wednesday) Term 2
Cherry (Year 3) Tuesday (changed from Wednesday) Term 2
Elder (Year 4) Tuesday Term 3
Rowan (Year 5) Monday Term 3
Oak (Year 6) Monday Term 1 – Friday

PE and Forest School will commence from Monday 7th September (except Acorn class). Children should come into school in their PE kit or Forest School clothes and their school shoes on the relevant days. Children will then change into their trainers or wellies in school.

Uniform

Please can we remind children that hair must be tied back so that it is not in their eyes, this applies to both girls and boys. Nail varnish must not be worn in school.

Please can all children bring in named wellies and trainers be kept in school, if you haven’t already done so.

Birthday cakes/treats

A few parents have asked if children can bring cake or treats in for their class on their birthday’s. Although this is a lovely idea, unfortunately in the current climate we are unable to accommodate this and ask that children do not bring these into school.

House Day

Friday 11th September is our first House Day of the school year. Can we please ask that children come into school wearing their house colours (a token sock or hair band will be just fine). More details will follow but as a reminder the house colours are as follows.

Four Barrows – Green

Ridgeway – Red

Winterbourne – Blue

Kennet – Yellow
