St. Michael’s Weekly Post – 27th November 2020

27th November 2020

Congratulations St Michael’s – The school are proud to have been placed 88th in the top 100 schools in the country. This is an increase from the previous year and an amazing achievement as there are 15,000 primary schools! We are so proud of our wonderful school and it’s great that this has been recognised.

The PTA have now totalled up all the wonderful donations from the welly walk at the end of October. We are thrilled that we topped last year’s donations, with a total of £1,883.65. Thank you to everyone for their generosity, particularly during this very difficult time, this money will go a long way towards our forest school cabin.

Next week, we have a valuable session with Wiltshire Air Ambulance who are coming into school to provide Emergency Awareness Training. I’m sure you will agree that this will be a great opportunity for the children to build upon their emergency awareness. Sessions will be tailored to each class and Covid 19 guidelines will continue to be followed.

Pupil Data Collection

Thank you to those of you who have completed our Pupil Data Collection form. For those who are yet to complete the form, please do so ASAP, using this link. When completing the form you will need to have your emergency contact details to hand, along with the address and phone number of your medical practice. Please complete a separate from for each child at school. If we do not receive a completed form by 4th December we will continue to use the current information held.

Christmas celebrations in school

This year will be a little different to previous years, however we are determined to bring some festive spirit to school. We are planning to film the nativity which you will be able to watch at home. This is our current plan for the next few weeks:

Monday 7th – Oak Class to decorate the school Christmas tree

Monday 7th – Friday 11th – All children will be learning and singing the songs for our nativity play and carol concert

Monday 14th – Each year group will perform and have their nativity songs and Christmas carol filmed in church

Tuesday 15th – The school will perform the nativity story which will be filmed

Wednesday 16th – Christmas lunch and Pantomime ‘Jack in the beanstalk’ (children will watch this virtually in their classrooms with an interval with ice cream provided by the PTA)

Thursday 17th – All children will take part in a Santa festive fun run, wearing a touch of Christmas – a hat, jumper or a touch of sparkle! On completion they will receive a gingerbread medal. Throughout the day they will have the opportunity to play some Christmas games kindly arranged by the PTA (both these events will take place within their class bubbles)

Friday 18th December – The whole school will take part in a socially distanced carol concert on the field. If anyone knows how this could be filmed or even live streamed, please could you get in touch with the school office.

We will be asking for a contribution of £5 to cover the cost of some of these activities, more details to follow.

We are looking forward to Christmas lunch on Wednesday 16th December. If you haven’t already booked your child/children in please do so via Lataca.

School closes after lunch – If your child is normally collected at 3:10pm then please collect them at 1pm. If you normally collect your child at 3:20pm then please collect them at 1:10pm.

Food Parcels for struggling families this Christmas

We recognise that this year may be a hard year for some families and we want to make sure that no St Michael’s pupil goes hungry this Christmas. A couple of parents have reached out to the school to offer food packages for those that would otherwise struggtle, regardless of whether you are in receipt of free school meals. If you are concerned about feeding your children this Christmas holiday please call Sarah Hamilton on 01672 540434 so we can make appropriate arrangements. This will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Sickness

Should your child need to be away from school due to sickness can we please ask that you call the school office on 01672 540434 before 9:15am each day, rather than messaging the teacher on ClassDojo or sending an email. If you have a planned medical appointment, however, an email to admin@stmichaelsaldbourne.co.uk would be appreciated in advance.

Amazon Smile

Amazon donates 0.5% of the net purchase price of eligible purchases to the charitable organisation of your choice. This is available by adding smile.amazon.co.uk from the web browser on your computer or mobile device instead of using amazon.co.uk. Please then select ‘St Michael’s Aldbourne PTA’ as your chosen charity.

Message from School Council

Alternative to Christmas Cards – As last year, and due to Covid 19, we would like to encourage the children to think about others who are not as fortunate as themselves. We would like to ask you, instead of spending money on the children sending Christmas cards to each other, to make a gift of a chocolate orange (in connection with Christingle) or selection box which we will then donate to Swindon Food Bank Appeal. The chocolate oranges and selection boxes can be placed into collection boxes at the school gates from next week until Tuesday 15th December. These donations will help struggling families enjoy Christmas this year.

Messages from St Michael’s Church

Christingle – We would like to remind you that this year, the Christingle will be a “distributed” one, available on-line, to keep everyone safe! Goody bags with “Christingle kits” will be available from: St Michael’s Church, Aldbourne & St Nicholas Church, Baydon, between 2.30pm and 3.45pm on Friday 27th November, and between 11.30am and 12.30pm on Saturday the 28th November.
