16th October 2020
As we approach the end of term we would like to thank you for all your support during these unusual times. Particularly by following our new procedures, some of which have been amended during the term to make as safe and as smooth as possible. Having our St Michael’s family work together in this way really reflects our school’s values.
As a reminder Monday 2nd November is a TD day and we look forward to welcoming children back on Tuesday 3rd November following the half term break.
Children will be celebrating Harvest Festival next week in their class rooms. We are joining with the church to support Swindon Food Collective, children are therefore invited to bring tins or dried products and leave them in collection boxes at the school gates from Monday as their harvest gift. We will share photos of our celebrations via our blog on Facebook and on our website.
In last week’s Post, St Michael’s church suggested making scarecrows from materials which otherwise would have been thrown away and Willows have since made a fantastic scarecrow. Making these scarecrows will help us to make the connection between looking after God’s world and bountiful harvest.
In preparation for our parents evening appointments, we would like to remind all parents to register or connect with ParentMail. All appointments will be by phone, from Monday 9th November to Wednesday 11th November The primary contact from each family should now have received an email from ParentMail, if you haven’t received this please contact us via firstname.lastname@example.org to enable us to look into this for you. Please register/connect as soon as possible so that you can be ready to book the parents evening appointment once it is available next week.
Forest School – Hazel and Birch classes
Next term we will be moving to a fortnightly approach to forest school for children in Hazel and Birch classes. We felt that for key stage 1 it is important for them to go to the forest throughout the whole year so they are able to see all the beautiful seasons, rather than our previous termly approach. Monday 9th November Birch class will be in the forest and Hazel class will be in the following Monday, 16th November. We will put information on the school calendar the weeks that each class are in the forest to prevent any confusion. You can add the school diary to your calendar system on your phone or computer by following the instruction on our website.
We are looking forward to our annual Welly Walk, next week. Children will undertake the walk in their school uniform and their wellies which they keep in school. If children would rather wear trainers or walking boots, they are welcome to do so. Hazel Class will not have PE on Wednesday 21st October, so they should also come into school in uniform.
There is still plenty of time for children to get fund raising and this can be via the sponsorship forms (reattached) or through our Virgin Money Giving website so that we can claim 25% extra money in Gift Aid. To fundraise in this way log into https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/giving/ > Fundraisers> Create a page> sign up or log in to do a Welly Walk> Tell it you’re doing “something else” on 21st October 2020> search for our charity, this is: St Michael’s Aldbourne PTA.
The Virgin Care Immunisation team will be back in school on Tuesday 20th October to provide flu vaccinations to children in Acorn, Hazel, Birch and Cherry classes, where consent has been provided. If you have any queries, please see the FAQ or contact the team directly on 0300 247 0082.
We have a number of unnamed lost property items at the moment which will be left in boxes by the school gates next week for parents to collect. Moving forward, please can you ensure ALL items of clothing are named.

The Willows afterschool club children have requested ‘board game’ afternoons. If you are clearing out any old games ready for Christmas that are in good condition, please donate them to us (we will, of course, quarantine/sanitise any donations). Thank you from the Willows Team.
