Exploring Flowers in Acorn Class

This week in Reception, we have been learning about how plants grow from tiny seeds. The children have been exploring the different parts of a plant and discovering what plants need in order to grow and stay healthy.

We spent time looking closely at a daffodil and talking about the different parts of the flower. The children learned about the petals, the pollen, the stem and the roots. We discussed how the bright petals help to attract bees and butterflies, and how these insects collect and carry pollen from flower to flower.

We also talked about how plants need sunlight to make their own food using their leaves, helping them to grow strong and healthy.

The children have really enjoyed exploring these ideas further during their ‘busy time’, following their own interests through drawing, building, role play and investigating plants. It has been lovely to see their curiosity and excitement as they learn more about the natural world around them.
