Year 5 learn what makes a good set of instructions

In English, Year 5 began learning about instructions and what makes them effective. They were given two sets of instructions, one to make a fabulous jam sandwich and another to make a “thing-a-me”, which involved lots of paper and lots of careful folding. They noticed that the jam sandwiches were far easier to make because of the clear, detailed instructions they were given. Some jam sandwiches still needed a little… tidying up though! In the style of The Great British Bake Off, some handshakes were given for the most beautifully presented sandwiches and the ones that most closely followed the instructions. There were lots of different interpretations of the “thing-a-me” because of how muddled up and simple the instructions were, the most common design resembling a paper aeroplane…
