We have had such an action-packed day of adventuring today! After a hearty breakfast we split into our groups and headed out into the wild! 2 groups travelled to a huge old quarry where they spent some time bouldering. After lunch they learnt about the rock formations there and then began climbing – traversing some super-challenging natural climbing courses. There were no hand or foot holds, rather, children had to study the rock formations and plan their own route up the quarry cliffs. Down at Porth Yr Ogof, another group headed into the stunning caves. Here children met the infamous ”letterbox’, they climbed up ‘the toilet’ – an area of the caves where they had to follow a tunnel, submerging themselves in water up to their chins before pulling themselves up through a toilet shaped hole! Everyone showed some serious courage and determination today and they were so proud of themselves when they’d finished! After warming ourselves up back at base (and welcoming some rather eccentric room inspectors!) we all headed out for a night challenge called ‘Dingle descent’. Here each team were attached to a rope and they had to clamber down a gorge full of water and many other natural obstacles in darkness – it was such an awesome challenge to finish off the day!
