Oak Class Curry Club!

Oak Class had a brilliant time preparing, cooking and evaluating their carefully designed curries as part of our DT project this week. After finishing off our learning about food hygiene, all the ingredients for our dishes arrived in class. Firstly, children cleaned and prepared their food, testing their skills when weighing, slicing, dicing, grating and peeling. Next we followed instructions to make the base sauce, scaling up our ingredients to ensure there was enough for the group. After that it was cooking and evaluating: taste-testing the dish (and washing our own spoons with hot, soapy water!) as they carefully considered the flavour and texture of the curry. After a a little more seasoning or a few minutes of reducing to thicken the sauce, the curries were served, compete with naan bread, poppadoms and mango chutney. It was really impressive to see children editing their original recipe as they cooked and spending time after eating the curries evaluating their dishes, considering improvements for next time – proper cooking!
