Chemistry in Rowan

Rowan Class have been busy investigating reversible and irreversible changes to materials. Last term, the class worked in groups to separate a mixture of rice, flour and salt within a liquid by sieving, filtering and evaporating. They discovered this was a reversible change as they were able to separate out the original materials. Today, they explored what happened when bicarbonate of soda was added to vinegar, with the creation of a new material – carbon dioxide – leading to an irreversible change to the original materials.
