Braeside Day One

What a fantastic first day we’ve had! We were all extremely excited as we stepped onto the bus.

Where we treated to some rousing renditions of various songs…

On arrival, we dropped off our bags and made our way around Devizes, exploring the history of this beautiful town. We found the story of Ruth Pierce, who died in 1753 after a feud over a bag of wheat, very amusing…

After returning to Braeside, we explored the beautiful garden, enjoying a game of Hide and Seek and a very close game of football; final score, 4-4.

After lunch, we made our way along the Kennet and Avon Canal to try our hand at canoeing and pond dipping. We were lucky enough to find a few different creatures in amongst the weeds and the murky waters of the canal.

We proved to be most excellent oarsmen and women in the canoes, working amazingly well in teams to navigate and take on all the challenges Keith and Yousef, our instructors threw at us. Some nervous children did an absolutely fantastic job of tackling their worries head on!

We FINALLY learnt who are roommates are (much to Mr P’s relief after weeks of pestering!) before heading for a delicious dinner!

We burnt off the many calories we very much deserved on a nightline, navigating through the pitch black of the woods. Some of us showed remarkable perseverance and resilience, conquering their fears of the dark.

Our day finished with a hot chocolate and a circle time, where we shared a few lovely words of thanks to one another. We expressed our pride for all of the many challenges we’ve overcome and all that we’ve achieved. Bring on day two!
