9th October 2020
Thank you to all those who donated second hand items for the Bag2School collection. Our wonderful PTA raised £156.90 which is a great achievement and will go a long way. Thank you!
Our annual Welly Walk is only a few weeks away and there is still plenty of time for children to get fund raising. This can be via the sponsorship forms previously sent out or through our Virgin Money Giving website so that we can claim 25% extra money in Gift Aid. To fundraise in this way log into https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/giving/ > Fundraisers> Create a page> sign up or log in to do a Welly Walk> Tell it you’re doing “something else” on 21st October 2020> search for our charity, this is: St Michael’s Aldbourne PTA.
We are very aware that many of you will be keen to know how your child/children are getting on. We plan to offer parents evening appointments by phone from Monday 9th November to Wednesday 11th November.
This year we will be trialling a new system for booking parents evening appointments, via ParentMail. Over the next few days you will receive one of two emails from ParentMail (if you haven’t already):
- If you already have a ParentMail account (e.g. with Lataca) you will be invited to connect with St Michael’s CofE (Aided) primary School
- If you don’t already have a ParentMail account you will be asked to register with ParentMail.
Please register/connect as soon as possible so that you can be ready to book the parents evening appointment once it is available week commencing 19th October.
Homework continues to be set via Class Dojo. Please confirm that homework has been completed by sending a message, using the standardised wording. This is the best method for teachers to understand if homework is being completed, rather than updating the child’s portfolio page. Please use the following message:
- Home learning complete – no problems
- Home learning attempted – name found _____ tricky.
Borrowed School Uniform
Where children have borrowed items of clothing, please wash the clothes and return it as quickly as possible so it can then be quarantined in school.
Unfortunately there will be no brass lessons on Monday 12th October. There will however be an additional lesson in December.
Unfortunately due to an issue with the Virgin Care IT system the Immunisation team were only able to immunise Elder, Rowan and Oak classes on Thursday. The Virgin Care team will rebook a session with us and return to vaccinate the remaining classes as soon as possible. We will let you know the new date once it is booked. If you haven’t already done so please give your consent/decline consent for your child to receive the nasal flu vaccination by completing the online form – https://schoolimms.virgincare.co.uk/flu/2020/wilts. If you have any queries, please see the FAQ on the link or contact the team directly on 0300 247 0082.
Children will be celebrating Harvest Festival week commencing 19th October in their class rooms. Once again we are joining with the church to support Swindon Food Collective. Children are invited to bring tins or dried products and leave them in collection boxes at the school gates from Monday 19th October as their harvest gift. This year particularly we recognise some families have found things harder than usual and are needing to use the Food Bank, we therefore would like to donate as much as possible from our school community.
St Michael’s church have suggested you make like to make a scarecrow from materials which otherwise would have been thrown away to help us to make the connection between looking after God’s world and bountiful harvest. There will be a service on 4th October to celebrate creation and on the 18th October to celebrate the work of those involved in health and social care in our communities, both at St. Michael’s church at 10am.
