5th May 2023
Despite the changeable weather, today has been a truly special day. The Coronation celebrations in school have really made it a day to remember. Children have been making crowns, traditional Morris dancing, wild flower bomb making as well as this afternoon’s procession in the village. Each child received a special St Michael’s commemorative coronation coin. We would like to thank our wonderful School Governors and Aldbourne Parish Council for this special donation.
Today is also Miss James’ last day in school before she commences her maternity leave. We would like to send our very best wishes for when the baby arrives.
On Wednesday, Hazel Class participated in a Multi-Sport Festival. The children came back to school with such enthusiastic tales of how they got on to then have an amazing session with Jonathan Jungle. Acorn and Birch Classes also enjoyed the sessions meeting geckos, millipedes, tarantulas and even holding a python. What a day!
Emergency Awareness Sessions
On Thursday and Friday next week, the whole school will receive an Emergency Awareness session, in their class groups. This session is provided by Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
OPAL – Outdoor Play and Learning
We know that play is a hugely important part of a child’s development and, as our new OPAL shed has arrived, we are striving to increase the range of things the children can play with at lunch and break times. Having spoken with the children, they would REALLY love some scooters, skateboards and small bikes. So if you have any that are no longer used, we’d be ever so grateful if you wanted to donate them to school for the children to play with. We are also keen to build a collection of helmets for children to wear. Again, if you have any that your children have grown out of or no longer use, we would certainly make use of them in school.
We are also on the hunt for ‘small world’ toys such as:
Cars
Action figures
Animals
Lego
If you are able to help out by donating any of the above, please bring them in to school and give them to your child’s class teacher, Mr J, Miss Welch or the office.
SATs – Oak Class Breakfast
Next week Oak Class will be undertaking their SATs each morning and have been invited to come to school early for breakfast to set themselves up in the best way for the day. We wish them lots of luck!
FACE Holiday Club
Please find attached details regarding the May half term holiday club held at Marlborough St Mary’s School.
Unwanted House Plants & Dead Flowers for Potion Making
Acorn class would love any unwanted house plants, dead flowers or cuttings for potion making. If you have any that you would otherwise be putting in the bin, please feel free to pop these next to our statue by the front door. Thank you.
Charity fund raising – Well done Lizzie!
Lizzie is currently working on her charity badge for Brownies and decided to make and sell marmalade to raise money for the RSPB. Lizzie has been very busy making batches after school this week and has already managed to raise £106, which has exceeded her initial goal of £50. Lizzie is now hoping to raise £150. Well Done Lizzie!
Brass Ensemble
As a reminder, Brass Ensemble will take place on Wednesdays. Can children please bring their instruments on Wednesdays.
