St. Michael’s Weekly Post – 4th December 2020

4th December 2020

This week all pupils have had a valuable session with Wiltshire Air Ambulance who provided Emergency Awareness Training. Pupils have been taught various skills (depending on their class), including calling the emergency services and CPR. We hope that these great sessions will go on to help save lives in the future.  You can see photos from the sessions and other activities this week on our school website.

Food parcels for struggling families this Christmas

As we approach the Christmas holidays, following what may be a difficult year for some families, some parents have offered food packages for those that would otherwise struggle. If you are concerned about feeding your children this Christmas holiday, please call Sarah Hamilton on 01672 540434 so we can make appropriate arrangements. This will be treated in the strictest of confidence and this is regardless of whether you are in receipt of free school meals.

Chocolate Oranges & Selection Boxes for Swindon Food Bank

Following last week’s request from the School Council for selection boxes and chocolate oranges for the Swindon Food Bank, we have received a number of donations already, which is fantastic. There is, however, still time to donate. The chocolate oranges and selection boxes can be placed into collection boxes at the school gates until Tuesday 15th December. These donations will help struggling families enjoy Christmas this year.

Forest School – There will be no Forest School during the last week of term.

In preparation for the last week of term, could we please ask for your old newspapers to make crafts. Please bring them to the school gates next week, ready to be quarantined over the next weekend.

Technology available at home

Yesterday, a form was shared with you in order for us to understand what technology children have available at home. Can we please ask that you complete this Technology available at home form  ASAP as it will help us in planning home learning should the children not be in school due to COVID-19. Please complete one form per child.

Parent/Carer communication survey

We would also like to hear your current views on parent/carer communication from the school. Please complete the parent/carer communication survey so that we can look to make improvements where possible. Please complete this once per family.

Christmas tree

At the end of term our school Christmas tree will be available for another family to enjoy. The tree this year is approximately 8/9ft tall. It will be available from 2pm Friday 18th December, for a small donation to the school. Please call the School Office on 01672 540434 if you are interested.

Christmas celebrations in school

As we shared in last week’s post, we have a number of activities planned during the last week of term, as below. On Monday 14th December and Friday 18th it will be lovely if children bring in a hat, gloves and scarfs, if they have them, for the carol singing.

Thursday 17th – All children will take part in a Santa festive fun run, wearing a touch of Christmas – a hat, jumper or a touch of sparkle (along with their school uniform). Throughout the day they will have the opportunity to play some Christmas games.

Friday 18th December – The whole school will take part in a socially distanced carol concert on the field.

As mentioned last week, we will be asking for a contribution of £5 to cover the cost of some of these festive activities. We will share further details next week.
