St Michael’s Weekly Post – 27th January 2023

27th January 2023

We have some Artic explorers in training in Hazel and Birch Classes.  It’s been an exciting Polar Day with children wrapped up warm spending the majority of the day outside undertaking a number of different tasks and activities. They have been making shelters and sledges, orienteering, communicating with their friends in a “blizzard” as well as putting up tents in the hall. They have clearly thoroughly enjoyed their expedition.

We would like to welcome Darcie into Hazel Class.  We hope Darcie and her family will soon feel part of the wider St Michael’s family.

Term Dates for 2023/2024

Pleases find attached term dates for the next academic year.  These are slightly different to the wider Wilshire Council dates.

House Day – Message from Winterbourne House Captains

On 10th February, the Winterbourne House Captains will be hosting a house day to raise money for a school called King George VI Centre. This is a school for deaf and disabled children and young adults, from the age of 3 to 20, located in Zimbabwe.  Can your child please bring in £2 (or donate via Weduc) for us to donate to the school.  Please send your child in non-uniform along with a splash of either red, yellow, green or black, the colours of the Zimbabwe flag.  This house day will be full of fun activities so please make sure they are wearing the optimal attire for sports. Thank you.

Music Concert

As a reminder, we look forward to the Children’s Music Concert held in the Church at 2pm on Monday 30th January 2023.  All family members are welcome to come along to enjoy our young musician’s playing a variety of pieces. In the concert, Rowan and Oak Classes will be singing a selection of songs from their recent performance at the O2.  Cherry Class cornet players will be playing as well as a number of musicians who have been invited to perform.

Forest School – Monday 30th January – Rowan

There will be no Forest School on Monday for Rowan Class, as the children will be taking part/enjoying the music concert.

Education Sunday – 11am Sunday 29th January 2023

We would love for pupils and their families to join us in School on Sunday for the Education Sunday Service.  We would like as many children as possible to join Mrs Arkwright and Mr Everitt to share their “lifetime love for learning” with the wider church community. Further details are attached.

Waterproofs

As a reminder, it is great to see that children are bringing in their waterproofs to allow them to play freely as part of OPAL.  If anyone has old/outgrown waterproofs at home, particularly larger sizes, we would appreciate them in school

OPAL – Request for items no longer required at home

Following last week’s post we would love the following items:

  • Any unwanted kitchenware (no sharp cutlery please!) e.g. pots, pans, baking trays, weighing scales, wooden spoons etc. (We’re hoping to create a mud kitchen and have a range of interesting percussion ’instruments’ for music making!)
  • Tarpaulins (to use for den/shelter building)
  • Buckets and spades
  • Trowels and shovels (for our digging area)
  • Wooden pallets

Polite Notice

We realise that a number of families walk their dogs as part of the school run.  Can we please remind everyone that pets are not to enter to the school grounds and ask that all waste is disposed of in the appropriate waste bin.
