St. Michael’s Weekly Post – 22nd July 2022

22nd July 2022

….. And we are done for another year! What a week! We experienced an unprecedented heat wave this week, 3 school performances, 2 sports enrichment days and a Leavers Service. Although it has been a busy end of term, it has been another great one.  The KS2 performance of Cinderella Rockerfella was brilliant, what a high for the year 6 children to leave us on!  Well done to all the performers.

The sport enrichment days were jam-packed with activities; dance, Unihoc, Tchoukball, Quad Kids, football and Nerf Capture the Flag. The children loved the opportunity to give these various sports a go.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us today for the leavers’ celebration.  It was a great chance to say farewell to our current Oak Class as well as Mrs Parmiter who is retiring.  We would like to wish them all a wonderful summer and all the very best of luck on their next chapter.

Thank you all for your support in what has been a most challenging year, particularly with Covid along with unprecedented wind and heat. I hope you all have a very happy summer holiday with your families. We look forward to seeing you in September.

Best Wishes,

Judith Arkwright

Headteacher

Wiltshire Summer Reading Challenge

Wiltshire Summer Reading Challenge is for 4-11 year olds to read six library books over the eight weeks of the summer in return for various fun prizes, including a medal and certificate on completion. This year the challenge runs from Saturday 16 July to Saturday 10 September. Further details can be found on this link.

Message from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service:

You may be aware that there have been a number of tragic drownings and near drownings involving children and young people over the last few weeks. Drowning is one of the top 10 causes of deaths of children. I know this hot weather may will not last, however we are increasingly concerned about children’s understanding of the risks from water and knowledge of what to do if things go wrong.

This coming Monday (25th) is World Drowning Prevention Day, and to promote this and the safety messages we have created an online prize draw to win a VIP trip to a local DWFRS fire station.

The answers can all be found in the link to the water safety website page (link in the quiz) https://forms.office.com/r/qecSYpgSTD
