St. Michael’s Weekly Post – 13th May 2022

13th May 2022

Oak Class have worked their socks off this week! They have all come in and all done their best for their SATs. The children enjoyed a wholesome breakfast together with some upbeat music ahead of the SATs, and to make sure they started the day the in the best way. We know the children have all tried their best and we are so proud of them.  We hope they have a restful weekend after their busy week.

DBS Requirements for Volunteers

At St Michael’s we are so lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers and we always would love more. Every volunteer who comes to school requires a DBS, whether you are a parent or not.  We therefore ask if you do kindly volunteer and do not currently hold a DBS with the school please reach out to the school office so we undertake the relevant DBS checks. Unfortunately, they are not transferable from other organisations.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Cherry & Elder History Walk – Volunteers Please

Next Thursday (19th) in the afternoon, Cherry and Elder classes will be setting off on a history walk around the village to find out more about life during WW2 in Aldbourne.  To support us with this walk we will need some parent volunteers to help with this please. If you are able to volunteer please reach out to the school office so we undertake the relevant DBS process.

Royal Windsor Horse Show

One of our wonderful Hazel class pupils rode at the Royal Windsor Horse Show recently, which we recognise as a huge achievement for this pupil. Riding for the Disabled (RDA) Lambourn came 4th in the Fancy Dress Competition. What a great achievement.

Poetry Slam 2022

Just a reminder that we will be holding our annual ‘Poetry Slam’ on Friday 20th May and we encourage all children to enter be it individually, pairs or small groups. It would be great if children could spend some time finding (or writing) a poem. It could be fun or serious, it might rhyme but it might not. For our older entrants, it could be a modern poem or a classic. For our younger poets it could be a well-known nursery rhyme or poem they are familiar with… The choice is theirs!

As usual, children will perform their chosen poem in class (teachers will tell their children the date for this) and those with the most votes will go through to the poetry slam final.

Each year group will also learn and perform a whole-class poem in the poetry slam final too!

People Who Help Us – Give a talk to Acorn Class

As a reminder, Acorn Class are learning about People Who Help Us and would love to meet some real doctors, nurses, vets, fire fighters, police officers and people from the armed forces. We also love to challenge gender stereotypes! Do let us know if you would like to meet the children and share some of your experiences of helping in the community.

Jubilee School Lunch

On Friday 27th May Lataca will be serving a celebratory lunch which is bookable via the Lataca ParentMail app. If your child requires school lunches this term and you haven’t already placed an order, please also book these via the app.

Messages from the PTA:

PTA Summer Fete Meeting – Monday 16th May (online) 7.30pm

We would love to run a summer fete this year, but to do so we need some volunteers to help organise it. The fete is planned for Saturday 18th June, and will follow on from the Aldbourne Fun Run. We will be running a meeting on Monday evening to discuss the event and would love for you to join us. There are lots of jobs to be done, whether it’s helping with the planning or volunteering on the day, all help is very much appreciated. All funds raised go to the school. Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89510101308?pwd=bGpVcVJjNk85akh4UHEzTUlnMk1aQT09.

Any questions, please get in touch with PTA on aldbournepta@gmail.com.

Safari Supper – Thanks again to all those who have taken the time to book to come to the Safari Supper next weekend (21st May). There are still tickets available – the more the merrier! If you have been a parent at this school for a while and haven’t had the opportunity to get involved, now is the time. You can buy your tickets right up until Wednesday 18th May at lunchtime. If you live outside the village then do offer to come along and host in a friend’s house, if you live in the village, please do host a course. I’m afraid we can’t offer any more places to just attend only unless you’re hosting. It’s nothing fancy, keep it simple and we’ll provide the wine. Everyone comes for one course only and then you move on to someone else’s house. Please take the time to get involved, we’d love to see you! Click here for tickets or go to the Post Office.
