Members of the PTA came together (virtually, anyway) on Thursday for our first meeting of the year. Maybe this is a sign that things are picking up and perhaps at some point in 2021 we can get back to our full fundraising strength.
Mind you, the Christmas Fun Run raised a brilliant £1,600 for which the school is so grateful – not bad for a year where life pretty much stood still! The children enjoyed their festive run, many donning their Santa Hats; and everyone proudly received an edible medal at the finish! No medals for adults unfortunately, but many keen sportsmen and women followed the signposted route around the village on their (socially distanced) 3k run. Well done to each and every one of you!
So, what are we fundraising for this year?
We would like to update our forest school provision further with a purpose-built shelter and equipment to allow our children to spend more time in nature, even if the weather is rather…erm British!
We are only 25% off our target to achieve this and discussions are now underway to find the right design. Exciting!
Many of you have already donated towards this, which is fantastic and deserves our heartfelt Thank You. If you still want to contribute, there are many ways you can:
> Donate directly via Rocketfund before 8th April rocketfund.org/forest-school-for-wellbeing. Any contribution, large or small, will be immensely appreciated
> Support our Bag2School collection on 19th May. With charity shops still closed, I’m sure it’s not just me whose wardrobe is in serious need of a clear-out. Just stick any (good quality / reusable) items of clothes into a carrier bag (or bin bag, whatever you have to hand) and bring your bag(s) to school in the morning. The school will get paid depending on how much we collect.
> Shop at the Co-op. That’s right, you can support the school simply by doing your weekly shopping. Make sure you get a Co-op membership card and set St. Michael’s Aldbourne as your local cause. The school will get 2p for every £1 you spend, and the same amount goes into your membership account and can be spent in the shop.
> You prefer doing your shopping online? No problem, just use Amazon Smile or Giving Machine when you splash out on your purchases. Setup is simple and once done, each time you shop online via either of those apps, a percentage of the net purchase price will be given to a charitable organisation of your choice – just make sure you select St. Michael’s as your charity.
> Sign up for our School Lottery and who knows, you might be the next winner of a weekly cash prize, while supporting our fantastic school.
But you can help in other ways too:
Did you know that every parent or carer of a child at St Michael’s is automatically a member of the PTA? And the more people who would like to be actively involved, the better in every respect – be it baking, helping out at events or even writing a school blog!
We’re also always looking for fundraising ideas; and this year in particular, with hopes in sight of the lockdown restrictions finally easing, we will soon focus on preparing for our Summer Event. Any ideas for this and/or offers of help would be greatly welcomed.
So if you think you can help in any way then please email firstname.lastname@example.org or better still come along to the next meeting (Thursday, 29th April, 19:30 hrs on Zoom) – we really are a lovely bunch and would love to see you!
